Joost Swarte published his cartoons in Charlie Mensue land Raw Magazine, and made illustrations for leading magazines such as The New Yorker, Vrij Nederland and HUMO. He also collaborated in architectural projects, including theatre De Toneelschuur in Haarlem, designed stamps, stained-glass windows, type fonts, posters and books. In 2016, he launched the yearly comics magazine Scratches, and his latest publication En toen De Stijl (‘And then De Stijl), about Piet Mondriaan and his fellow neoplasticists, appeared in 2017. Exhibitions of his work were recently presented in the Cartoon Museum in Basel and The Society of Illustrators in New York. In the near future, New Yorkers Collected will be published, a complete overview of the covers, illustrations and sketches Swarte made for The New Yorker.
