Jeroen Olyslaegers

Here at Words on Fire, our nomination for ‘man with the most beautiful name at the festival’ would definitely go to Flemish author Jeroen Olyslaegers, but beyond that he’s also one of Belgium’s finest writers of the moment. The reviewers were full of praise for his book WIL, which came out in 2016. Set in Antwerp during the war, this novel centres around Wilfried Wils, a young self proclaimed poet, trying to survive by helping out the police. Years later, he recounts his touching story to one of his family members. In addition to writing books, Olyslaeger also writes columns, theatre scripts and prose.

Jeroen Olyslaegers shares the stage with Peter Terrin and Mike McCormack. They will be interviewed by Marnix Verplancke.
