Herr Seele, pen name of Peter van Heirseele, grew up in an artistic family. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, where, in 1976, he met fellow-countryman and -cartoonist Kamagurka; together they started the absurdist comic series Cowboy Henk. Over the last 33 years, the comic has become one of the most popular features of Belgian tabloid Humo. Besides their weekly dose of ‘Henk’, the duo produces and presents programmes for theatre and television programmes. Herr Seele is also a painter, and was the first artist to be invited to Cézanne’s studio in Aix-en-Provence to paint, in 2013. Herr Seele is also a licensed piano tuner and owns an invaluable collection of historic Belgian pianos.
